About Gaited Horses……………
There are many breeds of gaited horses.
Such as The Tennessee Walking Horse, The Spotted Saddle Horse, The Missouri Fox Trotter, The Peruvian Paso, The Paso Fino, The Rocky Mountain Horse, The Walkaloosa, The Gaited Morgan and many more.
What they have in common is a predisposition to gait that is genetically inherited and each individual horse will have a different quality of gait.
The smoothness of a horse’s gait is influenced by many variables; Including breeding, training, rider position and abilities, and proper tack and placement.
Many people buy gaited horses because of the reputation they have for being a smooth ride, easy to train and a lot of fun!
Unfortunately lack of knowledge or information
Often results in a horse that is no longer smooth and begins to pace or trot or something in between.
The great news is the gait is not lost. It is still there!
There are some trainers that employ the use of harsh methods or quick fixes to get a horse in gait.
Such as long toes, chains, weights, tie straps, extreme bits etc.
Not only is this cruel and unnecessary, you are setting
Your horse up for unsoundness issues in the future.
With a little patience and training you can achieve
The smooth gait your horse was born to do NATURALLY.
